常见问题
- What is sepia toning?
- Sepia is a warm brownish-orange colour historically produced by treating silver-gelatin prints with sodium thiosulfate and cuttlefish ink. Digitally, it applies a colour matrix that shifts pixel colours toward warm amber while preserving luminance.
- What intensity should I use?
- 20–40% for a subtle warmth overlay, 60–80% for a clear vintage look without looking artificial, 100% for full classic sepia. Portraits usually look best at 50–70%.
- Does sepia work on colour and B&W images?
- Yes. For colour images, the sepia matrix first neutralises the colour cast then applies the warm tint. For B&W images, the effect is applied directly — producing the most authentic sepia-print look.
- Can I combine sepia with the B&W filter?
- Yes — for the most authentic vintage look, convert to B&W first (using the B&W Filter tool), then apply sepia here. Starting from a clean greyscale image produces the cleanest tonal result.
- Is sepia suitable for all photo types?
- Sepia works beautifully on portraits, travel, architectural, and street photography. Very colourful images (sunsets, nature close-ups) lose their vibrancy, which may or may not be the intended effect.
- How do I create a consistent sepia aesthetic for Instagram?
- Apply the same intensity (e.g., 70%) to every photo in your collection. The consistency of the tone across all posts creates a cohesive, professional-looking feed palette.
