The animation is rasterized at the size and frame rate you choose, then encoded as GIF. Color is mapped down to 256 per frame.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the GIF look slightly different?

Lottie is vector-based with smooth gradients; GIF is limited to 256 colours per frame. Subtle gradients may show banding.

Higher FPS = better quality?

24–30 fps is the sweet spot. Above 30, GIF files balloon fast without much perceptible benefit.
