Convert Black & White to Sepia Tone

Black-and-white photographs become even more evocative when sepia-toned — the warm amber overlay suggests aged paper and historical depth. Many photographers first convert an image to black and white using the B&W Filter tool, then apply sepia toning as a second step to achieve the full vintage effect.

For images that are already grayscale, applying sepia is especially effective because the warm colour overlay has a clean neutral base to work on. The result is a consistent warm tone from highlights to shadows, with no colour cast competing with the sepia.

This tool works on both colour and grayscale images. For colour originals, the sepia matrix first maps to luminance before applying the warm tint. For grayscale originals, the transformation is applied directly — producing the most authentic sepia-print look.
